Eleven things that will improve your health in 2007:

1. Drink more water, just plain water. Americans as a general rule don’t drink enough water. Sixty four ounces per day is a good amount. It will help keep you regular, and provide lubrication for your joints. See also #4.

2. Take vitamin D from October to April if you live in the northern United States. In the winter time, we don’t get enough sun to synthesize sufficient Vitamin D for our bodily needs. There are studies which show that the lack of Vitamin D in the winter in the northern climates is the reason that the flu season occurs in the winter. Another study links lack of Vitamin D to auto-immune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis.

3. Eat more uncooked food-especially vegetables. Cooking destroys the enzymes in food. We need enzymes to digest the food, so it would be wise not to destroy the enzymes in all the food we eat.

4. Never drink soft drinks. If its regular soda pop, its full of sugar, which contributes to the epidemic of diabetes and obesity in this country. If its diet, it contain artificial sweeteners which are, in my opinion, poison. Drink good, old fashioned water instead.

5. Take vitamin C, 500 to 1000 milligrams per day, increasing it to several thousand per day when you feel a cold coming.

6. Take vitamin E, 400 to 600 international units per day. Even heart surgeons are recommending Vitamin E for their patients.

7. Never SUPERSIZE anything. We, as a nation, are the fattest country on earth. We don’t need those extra calories. In fact, there is good reason to fast (nothing but water) once or twice a week. This will lead to a longer life span, and a better quality of life, according to many studies.

8. Find ways to exercise. We all know we need to exercise, but its not easy to find the time. Finding the time is well worth the effort, however. Minimum of 25 minutes per time, three times per week.

9. Take Co-enzyme Q10, at least 30 mg per day. It is an essential supplement for heart health. If you are taking a cholesterol lowering drug, such as Lipitor, you need to take at least 50 mg per day, and preferably 100 mg, because the cholesterol lowering drugs remove Co-enzyme Q10 from your body at an extra rapid rate. Studies have shown that Co-enzyme Q10 has cancer preventive properties as well as the heart health benefits.

10. Eat more fish, at least twice a week. If you can’t bring yourself to do that, an acceptable substitute is to take a salmon oil tablet per day. You’ll be amazed at what it will do to straighten out cholesterol problems, HDL to LDL ratios, and triglyceride levels. It also helps lubricate your brain.

11. Try to do something nice for a different someone every day. Let them into the flow of traffic ahead of you, let them cross the street in front of your stopped vehicle, let them go in front of you in the supermarket checkout line, etc. It will slow you down and make you feel good, which will lower your stress levels and your blood pressure.
